Instructions to INSTALL and USE the TSER CASE TOOL

The zipped files (tser1.zip & tser2.zip) contain all documentation, i.e user manual and case tool.

The following installation instructions assume the user is on a PC running Windows 95 or above. Please contact Prof. Hsu if you are running a different platform. Additionally, the instructions assume the use of the latest versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. If you download the zip files you will need winzip or similar software. If needed download at http://www.winzip.com.

We will be downloading all files to a single folder on your computer.

Go to "My Documents" or any other location and create a folder called TSER. Note the location of this folder. IMPORTANT: (1) Both program files (TSER1 and TSER2) must be stored in the same folder close to a root (for instance, "c:\TSER" or "c:\MyDocuments\TSER"), (2) all results from the CASE-tool (e.g., .ser and .oer) should be save to the same folder storing the program files (i.e., the above TSER folder), and (3) the folder must not be set to "READ-ONLY."

1. Point your web browser to http://viu.eng.rpi.edu
2. Click on Download at the left of the webpage.
3. Look near the center of the page for the following: "Download the latest IBMS CASE Tool v2.0b and Concepts Manual." Click on DOWNLOAD.
4. Go to bullet #2 "IBMS v2.0b for Win 95: tser1.zip (1.38 mb), tser2.zip (1.435 mb), last updated on Feb 13, 1998"
5. Click on tser1.zip. Internet Explorer users will see the image below.
   
   
   
   
6. Netscape users will see the following:
   
   
   
   
7. Internet Explorer users click OK to save file. Netscape users click "Save File".
8. You will see the following dialog box:
   
   
   
   
9. Open the folder you created in step 1 and click save.
10. Repeat steps 5 through 9 for tser2.zip.
11. Go the TSER folder using "Windows Explorer" or "My Computer". You should see both tser1.zip and tser2.zip in the folder.
12. If you already have winzip or similar program already installed on your machine then simply double click on tser1.zip.
    
    
    
    
13. Extract the files to the same folder or you can create another folder and extract it to that new one.
    
    
    
    
14. Choose folder and extract.
    
    
    
    
15. Repeat steps 12 through 14 for tser2.zip
16. When done, find the TSER folder in Windows Explorer or My Computer. You should see something similar to the following.
    
    
    
    
17. The icon captioned IBMS is the actual file you will be using. Double click on it and follow the steps in using it outlined in the Virtual Lab.
