Information Base Modeling System (IBMS)

Information Base Modeling System (IBMS)

The Information Base Modeling System (IBMS) is a Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) system which provides facilities for information (data/knowledge) modeling. It is based on the Two-Stage Entity-Relationship (TSER) Methodology by Dr. Cheng Hsu. This software creates Oracle, ACCESS, and dbase schemas for the users as also provides DFD and IDEF0 modeling modules.

The use of the software is free of cost as long as it is used for educational and other non-commercial activities under the license agreement which is contained in the on-line documents. Please e-mail any technical questions and other enquiries, including possible training and support, to hsuc@rpi.edu.

Documentation and Further Information

The IBMS software itself contains some manuals in the Help section. We also provide user's manual, a conceptual manual, and a tutorial file in the download page. There is also an extensive FAQ in this page. The information there should be helpful to address the problems regarding IBMS and TSER. Other two useful resources are collected in the pages of publications and Virtual Lab. Most of our publications related to TSER are found in the publications sub-page. The abstracts are downloadable and some full papers are also available there. Up to now, the most comprehensive documentation of the method and its related database integration technology are provided in a book entitle, "Enterprise Integration and Modeling" which is also described in the Publications page. The Virtual Lab contains some studios using the CASE tool.
