Structured Database System Analysis And Design Through Entity Relationship Approach

Abstract

A two stage entity relationship model is presented to integrate enterprise modeling with database design. The notion of Entity and Relationship at the semantic level is differentiated from that at the operational level. Two separate but synergistic sets of constructs are developed, one for each level of modeling. Algorithms are also developed for mapping the common enterprise models to the semantic Entity-Relationship constructs and later to the operational data structures for direct implementation.
